Esther von Schoenberg – van Zijl studied voice at the ArtEZ Conservatorium with Riekje Bakker and Valerie Guillorit. In 2011 she received her Bachelor diploma. She continued her studies with Marjan Kuiper and Brian Masuda, specializing in opera. In July 2013 she gave her final exam for the Master degree at the ArtEZ Conservatorium. She continues her vocalstudies with belcanto specialist Cathy Pope.
Esther has followed masterclasses with Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Miranda van Kralingen, Jard van Nes, Alison Pearce, Barbara Hannigan and Barbara Schlick.
She has sung various opera roles such as Fiametta in Boccaccio (F. Suppé), Zerbinetta (parts of) Ariadne auf Naxos (R. Strauss), Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach), Euredice in Retourtje Onderwerld (Monteverdi/Van Bueren), Constance in Les Dialogues des Carmelites (Poulenc), Amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors (Menotti), Scintilla in La Contadina (Hasse) and Galatea in Acis and Galatea (Händel).
Esther performs regularly as a soloist in oratoria and cantatas. She has a great affection for intimate song repertoire and collaborates often on projects with new compositions.
In 2008 she won second prize at the Euregio Vocalisten Concours and in 2010 she was chosen laureate of the Conserto Opera Workshop.
